Health, Not Diets has been running interactive workshops for dietitians in the Non-Diet Approach since 2014. For many of those years, Fiona Willer and Fiona Sutherland ('Fi squared') presented two day workshops for dietitians in locations around Australia and New Zealand, and we LOVED IT. But with the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic and changing work and family circumstances, our training offerings have changed.

Fiona Sutherland now offers many types of training, including advanced weight-neutral dietetics practice topics such as Eating Disorders and Trauma-Informed Counselling as well as clinical supervision via The Mindful Dietitian.

Fiona Willer, via Health Not Diets, currently offers online courses, coaching and organisational consulting in size inclusive approaches for health professionals and health organisations.

Unpacking Weight Science for Dietitians

The research about human body weight is mountainous. Most people accept unquestioningly that weight and health are closely linked. The assumption that increased weight causes poor health outcomes is widespread in medical and cultural discourse but the reality is much more interesting. This course will help you to learn how to 'unpack' weight related research, be it weight loss intervention research, 'obesity' research, or population-wide epidemiological studies, in order to interpret and discuss findings for their actual value, while weeding out weight biased rhetoric. Also covered is an overview of weight neutral interventions which incorporate health promoting behaviours, enhanced body image and self acceptance.

Find out about:

  • Energy Balance
  • BMI: Health, Risk and Disease
  • Intentional Weight Loss Efforts
  • Weight Stigma
  • Size Inclusive Approaches in dietetics

Unpacking Weight Science is also available as a self-paced online course.

Understanding Weight Stigma for Dietitians

This half day workshop for dietitians is designed to teach you about weight bias and stigma, and how they impact the healthcare system and healthcare practice in Australia. Common myths about weight management will be unpacked and weight inclusive practice (for example using the Health at Every Size or Intuitive Eating principles or Non-Diet Approaches) will be introduced. Participants will be supported to develop a plan to reduce weight stigmatisation in their work.
